Glass Spray Bottle for Essential Oils; Why Glass?

Glass spray bottle for essential oils

So, you’ve got the perfect DIY recipe for your essential oils. Now what do you store it in? Can you use that old plastic spray bottle hanging around? The answer is no.. You should use a glass spray bottle for essential oils.

Why?  Because some essential oils will erode the plastic, and the same goes with stainless steel.

The best material to store your favorite DIY recipe is a glass.  The reason essential oils are bottled in glass to begin with is to keep the essential oil pure, if they were stored in plastic bottles the plastic would slowly erode into the oil. Some stainless steel will also erode and mix in with the oils. Both scenarios are not a good outcome for your essential oils, thank goodness for glass!

This glass spray bottle pictured I bought from Amazon and it is PERFECT with being tinted it will not allow the UV rays to hit the oils either.  And bonus that the blue is just a cool color!

Yes, UV protection is a biggie against degradation from ultraviolet light and the class is nonreactive to keep your oils safe whatever your choice of oil may be! Lavender, Lemon, Thieves, Tea Tree, Sage, peppermint and more…

The handy reusable glass bottle is a bonus when it comes to the environment! It protects the landfills from filling up and protects you from plastic leaching into your mixtures. PLUS, unlike plastic, the smells wash away. Plastic hangs onto everything!

This particular glass spray bottle from Amazon is guaranteed for life because of its durability. They have a satisfaction guarantee, it’s why I bought it there particularly.

So, whether you’ve got the perfect room mist recipe, cleaning mixes, window cleaner or beauty products like face mists , this bottle is for YOU! My advise, don’t order just one… you will want more hanging around! Make a few labels and you have one good looking cleaning cabinet… and the best part, because you’re now a DIY’er, your home is chemical free! Congratulations, you are moving towards a healthy lifestyle.

Great tips, Baukje! I knew about plastic and essential oils, but I had no idea there was a reaction with stainless steel. And, I love the cobalt blue glass. You could keep all your cleaners in plain site and it wouldn’t look awful if they all had beautiful, blue bottles.
    PS, love the recipes. 😉

  2. I had no idea not to store oils in plastic or stainless steel. I have 2 cats and I want to spray the bathroom with oils. Do you recommend an oil that is not harsh?

    • Hello Reggie! Thanks for reaching out… It’s best to talk to your veterinarian before using any kind of aromatherapy around animals as they are much more sensitive to oils than us. Some oils are actually considered poisonous to animals… here is a website that can provide more information than I can http://meowlifestyle.com/6-essential-oil-safety-tips-for-cat-owners/. In it I found great reading on a list of oils that are potentially toxic and a list of how-to use essential oils specifically around cats. It is not forbidden to use them, just dilute heavily and stay away from the oils on the lists out there. Here is a blog that Young Living also published on the topic https://www.youngliving.com/blog/essential-oils-for-pets-a-quick-how-to/. I thank you for your inquiry and I will do more research on the subject myself and publish it at a later date! I hope this was helpful, please let me know if I can be of further assistance!

  3. Hey Baukje!
Thanks for this article, i would have thought stainless steel woulda have been an alright alternative to plastic but glass is definitely the way to go 🙂 Is there a certain company you know of that sells inexpensive, high-grade essential oils within Europe?

    • Hello Taner! Thank you for the feedback and questions… Young Living is available in Europe. They are Therapeutic grade essential oils and are the ones I use personally. They are not available in stores, you open an account and order online. You are able to sign up as a customer or as a distributor and I believe I can do this for you from Canada. If you’d like, I can certainly check into the particulars for you… I hope this information has helped you in some way!
